TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – William Key Norvell Jr. of Florence has been named recipient of The University of Alabama Alumni Association Student Award for 2005.

Norvell, a senior majoring in banking and financial services, served as president of the Interfraternity Council and is most recognized for successfully implementing a “Hazing Protocol” that allowed Greek presidents to strictly enforce the “no tolerance” policy of inappropriate behavior. Norvell’s influence significantly decreased the problem of hazing on the UA campus.

Along with serving as president of Blue Key National Honor Society, Norvell is a member of the University’s Multicultural Center Task Force, the Computer-Based Honors Program, the Blackburn Institute, the Jason’s, the Anderson Society, and Beta Gamma Sigma National Business Honor Society. The National Alumni Association honors two outstanding seniors each year who exemplify the spirit of character and achievement while students at the University of Alabama. The Alumni Student Award honors one male and one female who have excelled in academics and extra-curricular activities, shown strength of character and maturity, and displayed exceptional hospitality toward guests and friends of the University.
