Graduate Student Leaders Named at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — During annual elections for The University of Alabama Graduate Student Association, the following UA graduate students were selected for office:

Denny Bubrig of Oxford, Miss., president

Prince Cleveland of Birmingham (35221), vice president

Ismenia DeSouza of Tuscaloosa, research and travel communications chair

Jenny Hodges of Olive Branch, Miss., events chair

Elizabeth Hendrix of Northport, research conference chair

Rebecca Rose Lutonsky of Tuscaloosa, Web site master

Bubrig returns to the GSA board for a second year. Bubrig has been active in Alpha Epsilon Lambda, as a student ambassador for the graduate school and has participated as a workshop presenter for the CLASS conference at the Capstone.

Cleveland, the new GSA vice president, is heavily involved on campus through the African-American Association, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and as an SGA senator. This is Cleveland’s first year as a member of the GSA board.

DeSouza, a doctoral candidate in Spanish literature, has served the Capstone as an SGA senator and a Spanish teaching assistant. She is also active in numerous honor societies including Alpha Epsilon Lambda and Omicron Delta Kappa.

Lutonsky, a doctoral student in educational technology is a second-year member of the GSA executive board. She has also served three terms as an SGA senator.

Hendrix joins the GSA executive for the first time after taking on leadership roles in SGA and the campus-based constitutional reform efforts. She will be serving as chair of the Graduate Research and Thesis Conference, a one-of-a-kind effort in the southeastern U.S.

Hodges will serve as the events chair for the 2005-2006 academic year. Hodges, an assistant with international programs and a Residential Communities staff member, will be serving the GSA for the first time.
