UA Students Sponsor Operation Tsunami Relief

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama student groups — including the Office of Volunteer Services, Student Government Association, Office of Residential Life, and the Coordinating Council for Student Organizations — have joined together in a campus-wide event to raise funds for Operation Tsunami Relief to be held on campus from Jan 12-28.

The American Red Cross and OxFam America have been chosen as the official recipients of the collective donations received on campus.

UA student organizations will be raising funds by:

  • Collecting donations at two tables set up in the Ferguson Center (one by Starbucks and the other by the Ferguson Center Theater) from Jan. 12-28, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and in the UA Student Recreation Center from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on those days.
  • Collecting $350 for the purchase of a medical kit (for more information about this, contact Volunteer Services at 205/348-2865 or volunteer@ua.edu)
  • Collecting through individual efforts

The three student organizations contributing the most to the campus-wide project will receive a Dream Deal Package containing a variety of rewards; these organizations will also receive recognition at the annual Volunteer Academy Awards.
