UA Museum to Host Open House

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s Alabama Museum of Natural History will host its annual Holiday Open House on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 4-7 p.m. in Smith Hall, located near Sixth Avenue on the UA campus.

Kick-off the holiday season by visiting the Museum to see the ensemble of Christmas decorations and many different exhibits throughout the galleries. Featured in the Atrium Gallery is a unique collection of Christmas villages and storybook dolls.

“Holiday Dreams” is a personal display of villages by Marchelle Lawson of Tuscaloosa and includes hand-made and store-bought sets, carolers, a host of angels and figurines dating back to the 1940s. The storybook dolls are part of a collection of more than 5,000 pieces dating back to the 1800s and presented by Mary Harmon Tyson Moman.

The items will be on display through Dec. 23 and are part of the Museum’s celebration of cultural diversity. Operating hours for UA’s Museum of Natural History are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children and retirees.
