TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Members of the Theta chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity at The University of Alabama built 1.5 miles of nature trail at Lake Lurleen State Park over Halloween weekend.

The UA members of Sigma Nu, in cooperation with Druid City Bicycle Club (DCBC), connected the nature trail from the main parking lot to the previous trailhead.

DCBC trailmaster Gary Falls was pleasantly surprised at the quick work done by Sigma Nu. “I am amazed what was done Saturday. To clear 1.5 miles of abandoned trail and have it in excellent condition to ride or walk is beyond compare!” he said.

Lake Lurleen State Park offers recreational opportunities for people of all ages and interests, with activities ranging from swimming to camping and now, hiking and biking. It is a truly unique trail as it offers variations in the terrain, mixture of mature hardwood and pine forest, natural flow of the trail, expanded views of the lake and a wilderness type feeling. There are mountain bike rides weekly at Lake Lurleen. A schedule for these rides is available at www.druidcity.org.

With the completion of the nature trail at Lake Lurleen, Tuscaloosa will have a park whose trails are more than 15 miles in length and are comparable in grade to those in Birmingham.
