UA Welcomes Linda Francis Exhibit to Sarah Moody Gallery

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – New York artist Linda Francis will have an exhibit in the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art from Nov. 19 – Dec. 19. Her visit at The University of Alabama will begin with a lecture event at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 in 205 Smith Hall, followed by an exhibit opening reception from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Nov. 19 in the gallery.

Her large-scale chalk drawings and paintings showcase her interest in galaxies, scientific systems, mathematics and physics. Francis’ works have been called seductive and intelligent.

Career awards for Francis include a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship and a Pratt Institute Faculty Grant. Her work is in the collections of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Philip Morris.

Funding for the gallery is provided by the department of art and the College of Arts & Sciences at The University of Alabama. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday and 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday. Contact the gallery, located in Garland Hall, at 205/348-1891 for further information.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the University’s largest division and the largest public liberal arts college in the state with 6,600 students and 360 faculty.
