UA Golden Key Wins Top International Award for Fourth Consecutive Year

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The prestigious Key Chapter Award was recently presented to members of The University of Alabama chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society at the Golden Key International Conference in Atlanta.

This award marks 22 years of a winning tradition for the society at UA. The Capstone chapter received the award for excelling in communication, publicity, meeting management, chapter activities and leadership, as well as participating in regional and international programs.

Throughout the past school year, UA’s chapter exemplified outstanding teamwork, dedication and collaboration with other student organizations on the campus, and it was engaged in a combination of service, academic, social and fund-raising activities, according to its adviser.

“We are proud to receive the Key Chapter Award for a fourth consecutive year,” said Lynn Hamric, adviser to UA’s chapter and administrative secretary in the department of mechanical engineering. “These students continue to show leadership and academic success on campus.”

Golden Key International Honour Society was founded in 1977. The global non-profit organization provides academic recognition to college juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their classes and also leadership opportunities, community service, career networking and scholarships. The Society has nearly 350 chapters at colleges and universities in the United States, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa. Membership into the Society is by invitation only to students in all fields of study.

In 1837, UA became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering, with about 1,900 students and more than 95 faculty, is one of the three oldest continuously operating engineering programs in the country and has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
