UA and UT Square Off in Voting Campaign

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama and the University of Tennessee have long been fierce rivals on the gridiron, but this fall they are battling each other off the field, as well.

For the next week, the Student Government Associations at both schools are sponsoring a voter registration competition between the two student bodies.

The competition will run through Friday, Oct. 1. UA Students can register to vote in the SGA office in the Ferguson Center.

UA SGA Vice President of External Affairs Brinkley Serkedakis said that a contest against one of UA’s athletic rivals is an effective way to motivate students to register.

“As college students, and more importantly, citizens of Alabama and members of a democracy it is our right and responsibility to not only register and go to the polls, but to cast an informed ballot that reflects careful consideration of the important issues and the candidate’s respective platforms,” Serkedakis said.
