TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Col. Gregory Coker, commander of Air Force ROTC (AFROTC) Detachment 10 at The University of Alabama, has announced four in-college scholarship recipients who are current UA cadets.
The recipients of this year’s scholarships are Patrick Clements of Woodbridge, Va., Lawrence Wilson of Huntsville, Christopher Lessard of Loxley, and Scott Ray of Tuscaloosa.
An AFROTC scholarship generally covers the cost of full tuition, textbooks and laboratory fees. It also provides a monthly $250-400 non-taxable allowance throughout the academic year.
Upon graduation from college, these students will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force and pursue various careers that include flying, intelligence, security forces, aircraft maintenance, personnel, transportation, engineering, contracting, finance, medical services, communications and space operations.
Col. Coker emphasized the significance of the students’ achievement since the competition for these scholarships is intense. AFROTC also awards several scholarships each year to highly-qualified high school seniors. UA will welcome seven incoming freshman in the upcoming fall semester who were awarded four-year Air Force ROTC Scholarships.
The following incoming freshmen were scholarship winners: Christine Bloom of Huntsville, Drury Holland of Gulfport, Miss., Justin Huguet of Prattville, Tim Johnson of Northport, Chris Lowder of San Antonio, Texas, Chris Paulson of Huntsville, and Patrick Rish of Lexington, S.C.
