Coca-Cola Awards Scholarships to Three UA Students

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama freshmen Clinton Light of Arab, Megan May of Roanoke and Elizabeth Utley of Greenville were all named 2002 Coca-Cola Scholars.

The Coca-Cola Bottlers and the Coca-Cola Co. give this honor to 250 deserving high school seniors across the nation.

Light, May and Utley were selected from a pool of 91,000 applicants for this scholarship. The honor recognizes students for their strong academic records, leadership in their schools and communities, and a dedication to excellence.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation began awarding scholarships to high school seniors in 1989. Since the beginning of the awards, support has been given to more than 2,500 students, including 15 who have attended UA.

Coca-Cola continues the relationship with the scholars through their undergraduate years and beyond. Regionally, the Coca-Cola Scholars, representatives from the Coca-Cola system and selection committee members are brought together to meet and they are further connected through the Coca-Cola annual report and the company’s feature magazine, Quest.
