UA NSCS Chapter Sends Greeting Cards to Soldiers

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama student chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars will set up tables for students, faculty and staff to send greeting cards to soldiers stationed overseas from March 4-8 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Ferguson Center.

“We really hope these cards will lift their spirits,” Kimberly Kornman, NSCS historian, said. “We wanted to let them know how much we appreciate what they are doing and let them know we are thinking of them.”

During “Operation Moral Support,” a toy soldier will be displayed in a case at the Ferguson Center for every card that is mailed.

The students and faculty will be able to send an encouraging letter for free. The UA Supe Store donated the cards, and NSCS fundraisers and membership fees will pay postage.

After March 8, the organization plans to staff the tables every Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The unique project idea was generated in a NSCS officer’s meeting.

“We wanted to develop a unique community service project that could
involve the entire campus and make a contribution to a large group of people,” Kornman said.
