UA Greek Students’ Fund-Raiser for Children’s Hospital to End with Golf Tournament on March 8

TUSCALOOSA Ala. – Greek Links, a yearlong fund-raiser by The University of Alabama’s greek system, will end on Friday, March 8, with a golf tournament at Ol’ Colony golf course beginning at noon in Tuscaloosa.

Money raised by Greek Links will go to Children’s Hospital and Habitat for Humanity.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start and will conclude with an awards presentation at 5 p.m. Closest to the hole and longest drive awards will be presented. At 5:30 p.m., one individual who qualifies will have a chance at a $1 million hole-in-one shot. Outback Steak House and Papa’s College Custard are sponsoring the day’s events.

Habitat for Humanity and Children’s Hospital, a member of Children’s Miracle Network, will both benefit from the efforts of the members of UA’s 44 fraternities and sororities over the past six months.

Nearly $150,000 was raised during the initial phases of the campaign. The final total will be announced during the awards presentation at 5 p.m., at the conclusion of the March 8 golf tournament. Children’s Hospital patients from the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa areas will be in attendance.

By the end of the fall 2001 semester, greeks at UA had raised enough money to build a home for Habitat for Humanity. Construction by fraternity and sorority members will begin on Saturday, March 9.
