UA Museum & Arboretum to Host Valentine Dinner, Presentation on Antique Roses

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Museum of Natural History and The University of Alabama Arboretum will host a St. Valentine’s Day dinner featuring a presentation on antique roses, Feb. 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Smith Hall, located off 6th Avenue on the UA campus.

Horticulturist Jason Powell will discuss the bloom times, care, growth styles, fragrance classes, and companion plants for antique roses to create “Grandmother’s garden” in your own yard.

“Jason knows his plants,” said Mary Jo Modica of the UA Arboretum. “He is also a gracious and wonderful speaker.”

Dinner will be served in historic Smith Hall’s Grand Gallery of ornate Corinthian columns below a majestic glass roof. The Gallery, one of the most beautifully proportioned interiors on the UA campus-perhaps in Alabama, houses exhibits of fossils, rocks, and minerals from the Coal Age, Dinosaur Age, and Ice Age.

Regular operating hours for the UA’s Alabama Museum of Natural History are Tues.-Sat., 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Sun., 1-4:30 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children and seniors.
