UA Law School Team Places Second in National Competition

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Law’s Trial Advocacy Teams again proved they are among the nation’s best.

In the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Trial Competition, held in Santa Fe, N.M., the team of Brent Woodall of Decatur, Cynthia Propst of Hoover, Julie Schilleci of Hoover, and Martin Poynter of Vestavia Hills, placed second. The team went undefeated through four trials and lost by one point to Temple Law School.

Individually, the team won four out of five best advocate awards. Woodall won best advocate in rounds one, two and the final round and Schilleci won best advocate in the semifinal round.

Also, in the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s Tournament of Champions, held in Washington, D.C., the team of Matt Glover of Charleston, W.Va., Brandon Essig of Pinson, Andrew Moak of Tuscaloosa, and Leanna Bankester of Mobile, finished fifth out of 16 teams. The team went undefeated through three rounds and lost in a close decision in the fourth round.
