Tallahassee Group Named UA Alumni Chapter of the Year

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama National Alumni Association recently presented the Tallahassee, Fla. alumni chapter with its Chapter of the Year award.

Each year, UA’s National Alumni Association presents awards to alumni chapters that have diligently supported the University and its programs throughout the year.

The Tallahassee chapter has supported the University for years, and it recently established an endowment for a scholarship for Tallahassee residents desiring to attend UA.

The chapter also hosted many family oriented events including its annual picnic at McClay Gardens and held its first golf tournament last summer, raising more than $4,000 toward its $20,000 endowment goal.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the Tallahassee chapter,” said Cheryl Altemara, manager of chapter development for UA’s alumni association. “With hard work and great love for The University of Alabama, this group is making a difference with their support. We work with so many dedicated alumni chapters, however Tallahassee has really gone above and beyond the call of duty during the past year.”

“It was an honor to accept the ‘Chapter of the Year’ award for the chapter and the many people who have worked so hard this past year to make the Tallahassee Chapter a chapter The University of Alabama’s fans and alumni in the northern Florida and southern Georgia area can be proud of,” said Robert Portera, chapter president. The award was presented April 14 during the association’s annual A-day meeting held on the UA campus.

On June 2, at the Capital City Club, the chapter will hold its second annual golf tournament to raise funds for its scholarship for Tallahassee residents.

Chapter representatives expressed appreciation to the local businesses supporting the tournament with sponsorships and prizes. Anyone interested in The University of Alabama, including alumni, fans and friends, is invited to participate in the tournament and all chapter activities.
