Annual Phi Beta Kappa Lecture “Anti-Evolution In 20th Century America” At UA May 10

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Ronald L. Numbers will present this year’s Allen Going Lecture event titled “Anti-Evolution in 20th Century America: From Creation Science to Intelligent Design,” on Thursday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m., in 125 ten Hoor Hall on The University of Alabama campus.

The presentation and post-lecture reception, sponsored by Phi Beta Kappa, is free and open to the public.

Numbers, who is the Coleman Professor of the History of Science and Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, will discuss evolution views spanning from the anti-evolutionists in the early 20th century, to a theory of intelligent design, which attempts to disprove materialistic evolution — a theory which grew out of the 1990s.

This year marks the third annual Allen Going Lecture at the University. Seating will be limited to the lecture, therefore, early arrival is recommended. For more information on the event or speaker, contact Dr. Pieter Visscher at 205/348-3773.
