UA’s College Of Education Adjusts Summer Graduate Course Offerings To Accommodate K-12 Teachers

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. The University of Alabama’s College of Education is making it easier for K-12 teachers to earn post-graduate credit during their summer break.

This summer, graduate courses offered during the College’s two summer sessions will begin after the K-12 school year is finished and before the new K-12 school year begins.

“Revising our summer schedule so that graduate classes don’t overlap with the K-12 school sessions makes it easier for teachers to pursue graduate degrees or advanced certification at the Capstone,” said Dr. John P. Dolly, dean of education.

“Before this year, teachers were scrambling to attend classes and fulfill course requirements at either the beginning or the end of a summer session. The schedule changes eliminate all of that.”

The first summer session for UA’s graduate education classes will run from June 2-29. The second summer session will run July 2-31.

The number of classes offered will be the same as in recent years; however, two timetables will be used during both sessions to give students more flexibility in scheduling.

Timetable A classes will be scheduled for Monday through Friday, 7:45 – 9:50 a.m., and Monday through Friday, noon – 2:05 p.m. Timetable B classes will be scheduled for Monday through Thursday only. Meeting times will be noon – 2:30 p.m., 2:45 – 5:15 p.m., and 5:30 – 8 p.m.
