Educational Technology Expert William H. Graves To Speak At UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — One of the foremost authorities on the use of the Internet and e-technologies in education, William H. Graves, founder and chairman of Eduprise, will speak at The University of Alabama on “The Use of Internet Technologies in Teaching and Learning,” Wednesday, April 4, at 2:30 p.m. in Room 202 in the Biology building on the UA campus.

Graves is founder and member of the board of directors of Eduprise, a platform-independent e-learning services company that helps educational organizations develop and implement an enterprise e-learning strategy.

“Graves is true visionary in the field of technology and its influence on higher education,” said Dr. Robert Olin, dean of College of Arts and Sciences. “We look forward to his insights into how technology will transform learning at The University of Alabama and the delivery of higher education nationally. We are glad to have a man of his experience and recognition in Alabama.”

Along with 30 years of experience in higher education, Graves has given hundreds of presentations, published more than 50 articles on all aspects of information technology in higher education, and advised hundreds of institutions.

He earned his doctorate at Indiana University in 1966 and is professor emeritus of mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at UNC, Chapel Hill, Graves served as dean of general education, interim vice chancellor for academic affairs, and senior information technology officer.

Graves is founder and director of the Institute for Academic Technology (IAT), a prominent educational technology think tank and demonstration center.

Graves is also on the board of directors of COLLEGIS, EDUCAUSE and the Instructional Management Systems Global Learning Consortium.

Graves is cofounder of EDUCAUSE’s National Learning Infrastructure Initiative (NLII), where he continues to chair on the NLII planning committee. He is also one of the founders of the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development and its Internet2 project.

The lecture is sponsored by The University of Alabama Academic Technology Committee, a group of University deans and technology professionals charged with implementing new learning technologies at UA.
