UA’s Bankhead Writers Series To Feature Authors Kauffman And Martin

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ­ The Bankhead Visiting Writers Series at The University of Alabama will present authors Janet Kauffman and Emily Martin on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m., in 205 Smith Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Kauffman is the author of a trilogy of short story collections “Flesh Made Word: Collaborators,” “The Body in Four Parts” and “Rot.” She has also published three collections of poems, including “The Weather Book,” which was an Associated Writers Program Award Series selection. Additionally, she has published stories and short poems in The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Paris Review and others. Kauffman currently teaches at Eastern Michigan University.

Martin, proprietor of The Naughty Dog Press, has been making artistic books since 1978. She also produces painting and sculptures with a combination of narrative and visual approaches, as well as limited edition sculptural/moveable books using images and text in a variety of media. Her books are held by major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art. She teaches book arts classes at the University of Iowa Center for the Book.

The Bankhead Visiting Writers Series is made possible by an endowment from the Bankhead Foundation, UA’s creative writing program, the department of English and the College of Arts and Sciences.
