UA To Change Snack Machines

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama will replace all on-campus snack machines with new machines during the break between fall and spring semesters. The new machines will have reduced prices on some items.

“We are pleased that prices on some items will be reduced,” said Gina Johnson, director of auxiliary and support services. Chip prices will be reduced to 55 cents, pastry items will be reduced to 60 cents, and crackers will be reduced to 50 cents. Candy will remain the same price.

“The new machines should also provide better service and fewer outages,” said Johnson. All snack machine locations and the locations of machines with Action Card readers will remain the same. The machines will be replaced the week after exams and the week before classes begin to minimize any disruption to students and others.

The machines will feature mostly Lance products. This offers customers additional advantages, according to Johnson.

“Lance manufactures many of its own products, so, in many cases, they are able to control price and quality. They are also able to offer our customers a greater variety of products.”

Vending machine revenues fund the general scholarship fund at the University. Last year contributions to that fund totaled more than $475,000.
