TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama chapter of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) will hold an induction ceremony for 1,005 new members on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center.
NSCS is a national organization established on the principle that with scholarship comes a responsibility to obtain leadership and a duty to perform service. The society recognizes and celebrates high academic achievement among first- and second-year college students in all disciplines of study. It is based on three ideals — scholarship, service and leadership.
Officers for the UA chapter include:
Fredrick Cope of Brewton, president
Jennifer Bibby of Tuscaloosa, vice president for community service
Erin Blackstone of Lafayette, La., executive vice president
Evan McCord of Johnson City, Tenn., preparing for college success coordinator
Katie McProuty of Bowie, Md., secretary
Shakira Thomas of Evergreen, treasurer.
Each year NSCS chapters nominate and select “distinguished members.” The candidates for the award are nominated by the local chapter because of their assistance to the chapter and because of their belief in the mission of the society.
Distinguished members of the UA chapter of NSCS are UA President Andrew Sorensen; Stacy Jones, manager of production and technology services, UA Office of Student Media; Cynthia E. Moore, career counselor, UA Career Center; and Noelle Dolbare, UA student and founding president.
