UA Golden Key Chapter Wins International Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Key Chapter Award was presented to members of The University of Alabama chapter of the Golden Key National Honor Society at the recent Golden Key International Convention in Los Angeles.

The award honors chapters excelling in five major areas: communication, publicity, meeting management, chapter activities and leadership, as well as in participation in regional and international programs.

This year, the UA chapter participated in activities such as Best of America and the Tuscaloosa Head Start Project. Lynn Hamric, administrative secretary in the mechanical engineering department, serves as adviser to the local chapter. Membership into the Society is by invitation only to the top 15 percent of juniors and seniors in all fields of study. Delegates from the UA chapter accepted the award at the convention’s awards banquet that was attended by some 1,300 delegates from around the world.

Golden Key is a nonprofit, international academic honors organization that provides academic recognition, leadership opportunities, community service, career networking and scholarships. The Society has 300 chapters across the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa.
