UA Computer Science Students Place In Top Ten At Regional Competition

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama College of Engineering’s Computer Science Association for Computing Machinery student chapter placed 10th in the Southeast Regional Scholastic Programming Contest, held recently at Georgia College and State University.

The UA team consisted of three students majoring in computer science: Arthur Ward of Houston, Texas; Michael Davis of Birmingham; and Raymond Lenski of Slidell, La. Christopher Terry, system administrator in the computer science department, served as their coach. Students in the competition were given a set of real-world programming problems and a limited time in which to complete as many of these problems as possible.

This year’s regional contest attracted 77 teams from schools in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
