UA Celebrity Series To Host Violinist Leila Josefowicz In Concert Nov. 9

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The School of Music at The University of Alabama will present violinist Leila Josefowicz in concert as part of this year’s Celebrity Series, on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m., in the Moody Music Concert Hall on the UA campus.

The event is sponsored by the Gloria Narramore Moody Foundation.

Tickets are available for $22 and $15 for the general public and $7 for students with valid Ids. Call the School of Music box office at 205/348-7111 for more information.

At the age of 21, Josefowicz has won the hearts of audiences around the world with her honest, fresh approach to the repertoire and her dynamic, fiery virtuosity. Her young career has already taken her throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Asia through recitals and concerto appearances. Josefowicz was brought to national attention in 1994 when she made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York. The performance was followed immediately by her debut recording of the Tchaikovsky and the Sibelius concertos with Philips Classics.

Tours and performances throughout North America have included stints with the Boston Symphony with Seiji Ozawa, the Chicago Symphony, the Cleveland and Philadelphia orchestras and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She records exclusively with Philips Classics, and her most recent recording, released in February, includes the Mendelssohn and Glazunov concertos with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

“Leila Josefowicz is one of America’s youngest, most vibrant performers of the violin. Her energy and world-class sounds will surely appeal to our Celebrity Series audience, and we are glad to have the opportunity to have someone as talented and full of promise perform at The University of Alabama,” said Joyce Grant, interim coordinator of music services at UA. “She provides us with yet another example of the diverse talents and range of musical repertoire that our patrons can expect each year through this concert series.”
