UA Capstone Women’s Network Awards Scholarships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Capstone Women’s Network (CWN) at The University of Alabama has awarded $750 scholarships for the 2000-2001 academic year to students Mona Jonsson of Klippan, Sweden, and Naomi Powell of Tuscaloosa.

Jonsson, who was recruited by UA’s track and field program, will obtain a bachelor’s degree in physical education in May 2001. She has wanted to teach athletics since she was a young girl and is hoping to stay in the United States after graduation. Powell, an adult student who is earning her degree at UA after years of work and family responsibilities, works full time as an administrative assistant in the Cooperative Education Program at UA. She is has a son currently attending Shelton State Junior College and a daughter who is a junior at UA in anthropology. Powell is working towards a bachelor’s of science degree with a concentration in human services.

CWN awards one or more scholarships annually to adult female undergraduate students at UA. The amount of the award may vary from year to year. Application information for the 2001-2002 academic year will be announced early in the spring semester.

CWN seeks to enrich the life experiences of University women by providing networking opportunities. All women employed by the University, retirees of the University, or who are UA graduate students are eligible for membership in CWN. Dues support programs and activities, including the annual scholarships.
