UA Astronomers To Host Public Sky Viewing Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Visitors can, weather permitting, take a close look at Jupiter and Saturn by peering through a University of Alabama telescope at Gallalee Hall, on Friday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. William Keel, professor of astronomy, will be the speaker. In addition to the planets, visitors may also look at Ring Nebula, a cloudlike patch of gas produced by a star in its last stages of life.

Other public viewings scheduled for UA’s Gallalee Hall include:

Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. – Jupiter, Saturn and a crescent moon will be the focus, and Dr. Raymond White, professor of astronomy, will be the speaker.

Monday, Dec. 25, 9:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. – A partial solar eclipse will be the focus.

Gallalee Hall is located on the UA campus near the intersection of Hackberry Lane and University Boulevard in Tuscaloosa.
