Fiction Writers Highlight Nov. 2 Bankhead Writers Event At UA

TUSCALOOSA, AL- Fiction writers Geoff Schmidt and Tim Parrish will read portions of their work on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m., in 205 Smith Hall on The University of Alabama campus as part of the Bankhead Visiting Writers Series.

Schmidt received the Illinois Arts Literary Award for the story “Corrupter of Words.” He has been nominated for three Pushcart Prizes and was awarded the First Place Gold Circle Award for “A conversation with Robert Hass.” He has published fiction, poetry, and non-fiction in journals such as The Massachusetts Review, The Gettysburg Review and The Black Warrior Review. Schmidt received his master’s of fine arts from The University of Alabama and is currently an instructor at Illinois Valley Community College.

Parrish’s collection of short stories, “Red Stick Men,” was recently published by the University of Mississippi Press. His work has appeared in such journals as Connecticut Review, New England Review and Crab Orchard Review. His essay “Where’s the Story?” appeared in 1997 Novel and Short Story Writers’ Market. Parrish has been nominated for several Pushcart Prize awards and has judged a number of literary contests. He also received his master’s of fine arts from The University of Alabama and is an associate professor at Southern Connecticut State University.
