Caruso Named Distinguished Departmental Fellow By UA College Of Engineering

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama College of Engineering recently named Vincent P. Caruso of Huntsville as a Distinguished Departmental Fellow for the department of industrial engineering.

Caruso is retired from NASA, where he served in several positions during his career, and his work contributed to the success of the manned space shuttle.

Prior to working for NASA, Caruso held various positions with the Kaiser Aluminum Company in Baton Rouge, La., and was senior industrial engineer at Kaiser Ravenswood, West Virginia Plant, where he established lubrication schedules and a preventive maintenance program.

Caruso holds a patent on Rod Peening–Process and Tool Improvement and has received many awards, including the NASA Sustained Superior Performance Award, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal, the NASA Outstanding Performance Award, the MSFC Director’s Commendation, and the Distinguished Interprofessional Engineering Achievement Award.

Caruso received his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from UA in 1947.
