Diabetes Support Group to Meet Friday at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Adults with Type II diabetes who need to lose weight are invited to join a support group that is meeting Friday, Aug. 11, from noon-1 p.m. at the Capstone Medical Center carrel room on The University of Alabama campus.

Dr. Natasha Harder, chief resident in the UA College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) department of family medicine, will speak on “Monitoring Diabetes – Understanding Tests and Goals.”

The group will determine its own meeting schedule, but “Capstone Medical Center wants to enhance opportunities for our patients to succeed at self-management and health risk reduction,” according to Margaret Garner, the Capstone Medical Center’s nutritionist and a sponsor of the support group.

Capstone Medical Center doctors, nurses, the nutritionist and social worker will be available as needed to provide patient education at regular intervals. Please call Gwen Wade at 205/348-2880 for more information on the support group.

CCHS is a clinical branch campus of the UA School of Medicine, whose central campus is in Birmingham. CCHS emphasizes family practice and other primary care disciplines, as well as providing education for third- and fourth-year medical students. CCHS also trains family physicians in a three-year Family Practice Residency Program, which provides medical service to the community through UA’s Capstone Medical Center and DCH Regional Medical Center.
