UA Wins CASE Awards for PR/Marketing Projects

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama recently won seven awards for public relations and marketing projects in the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III annual awards competition.

The awards, which included a Grand Award, CASE’s highest level of recognition, were given at the CASE regional convention in Atlanta. CASE is an association of university public relations, alumni, and development professionals.

“These awards reflect well on the hard work and dedication of our staff. They are especially meaningful because they are given by our peers,” said Janet Griffith, UA assistant vice president for university relations. “We have won numerous CASE awards over the years and we are very pleased to continue that tradition.”

UA’s Office of Marketing Communications won a Grand Award for a new student orientation publication and a Special Merit Award for the “1998 President’s Report,” both produced under the direction of Art Director Laura Lineberry.

UA won an Award of Excellence for its graphic identity program. The award recognized UA’s new wordmark and graphic standards program, which were introduced on campus last year. Jan Pruitt Duvall, director of marketing communications, headed the University’s efforts to develop and implement the new graphic identity.

Reata Strickland of UA’s Faculty Resource Center received an Award of Excellence in the Slide and Multimedia Programs category for a project she produced for the College of Engineering.

UA’s Office of Broadcast Services won two awards for video news releases and one for commercial broadcast spots. Video news releases titled “RISE School Lifts Children with Down’s Syndrome” and “Bobby Humphrey Graduates” each received an Award of Excellence in the audio-visual communication division. A series of commercial spots titled “Around the World and Right Next Door” won a Special Merit Award in the video PSA/commercial spot category. These awards recognized Tom Stipe, director of broadcast services, and broadcast producer/reporters Angie Balius and Bill McDaniel.
