UA Chemistry Professor Appointed Editor of New Journal

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Robin D. Rogers, professor of chemistry at The University of Alabama, has been appointed editor-in-chief of Crystal Growth & Design, a new journal of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society.

Rogers is a leading researcher and professor in the areas of crystal engineering, separation science and analytical inorganic chemistry. Formerly a Presidential Research Professor at Northern Illinois University and faculty appointee to the Argonne National Laboratory, Rogers is director of the Center for Green Manufacturing at UA.

“We’re thrilled that Robin Rogers is joining us to lead this important venture,” said Robert D. Bovenschulte, ACS director of publications. “His expansive knowledge in interdisciplinary sciences and expertise in publishing are among the guiding forces for what we believe will be a groundbreaking new publication.”

Crystal Growth & Design will publish research results on the physical, chemical and biological phenomena and processes related to the design, growth and applications of crystalline materials. One of the aims of the journal will be to stimulate cross-fertilization of knowledge among scientists and engineers working in the fields of crystal growth and crystal engineering.

The new journal is the second of three that ACS is publishing in an innovative collaboration with the Association of Research Libraries through its Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition. ACS is the first major publisher to agree to work with research libraries to offer new, high-quality journals at more accessible prices. The first of these journals was Organic Letters.

Crystal Growth & Design will begin publication in January 2001.
