Diabetes Support Group to Meet Friday at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Adults with Type II diabetes who need to lose weight are invited to join a support group that is meeting Friday, May 12, from 11 a.m.-noon at the Capstone Medical Center carrel room on The University of Alabama campus.

Guest speaker Dr. Lori Bussey will discuss “Living with Diabetes, What Every Patient Should Know.”

The group usually meets the second Friday of each month. “Capstone Medical Center wants to enhance opportunities for individuals with diabetes to succeed at self-management and health risk reduction,” said Margaret Garner, a sponsor of the support group and director of nutrition education and services in the UA College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) department of family medicine.

Capstone Medical Center doctors, nurses, the nutritionist and social worker will be available as needed to provide patient education at regular intervals. Please call Nancy Bohannon at 205/348-2880 for more information on the support group.

CCHS is a clinical branch campus of the UA School of Medicine, whose central campus is in Birmingham. CCHS emphasizes family practice and other primary care disciplines, as well as providing education for third- and fourth-year medical students. CCHS also trains family physicians in a three-year Family Practice Residency Program, which provides medical service to the community through UA’s Capstone Medical Center and DCH Regional Medical Center.
