TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Law recently won the Southeast Regional Championship at the 2000 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Dallas.
The UA team, nicknamed “Woodshed,” was the only undefeated team. They won over teams from the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Memphis before defeating LSU in the semi-finals. The UA team beat the Tulane team in the final round.
The team members are Michael Allen, Mobile; Beth Bosquet, Crozet, Va.; Kristi Deason, Jasper; Alan Estes, Montgomery; David “Chips” Pruet, Opelika; and Sean Shirley, Lanett. Professor Jonathan S. Berck is the faculty adviser to the UA International Law Moot Court Team.
The team won five trophies including three of the five best oralist awards who were Allen, second place; Pruet, fourth place; and Bosquet, fifth place. Pruet was also named best oralist of the final round. The team took second prize for the best memorial.
The UA team advances to the national competition in Washington, D.C., April 3-8.
