Artist Gary Stephan to Lecture at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Artist Gary Stephan will present a lecture at The University of Alabama on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m., in 203 Garland Hall. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Stephan, whose exhibit “Gary Stephan: Same Body Different Day,” is currently running in UA’s Sarah Moody Gallery of Art through Feb. 20, features works from 1988-1998, although his career as an artist spans more than 30 years. Large paintings consisting of configurations of forms, both recognizable and vague, are combined with emotion and bold coloration. Stephan uses his experience as an artist and a scholar in selecting titles for the works, adding further layers of information for the viewer to ponder.

Funding for the gallery is provided by the department of art and UA’s College of Arts and Sciences. The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art is located in 103 Garland Hall. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and Sundays 2-5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information about the exhibit or the gallery, please call 205/348-1891.
