UA Arboretum Announces Spring Events

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Friends of The University of Alabama Arboretum has announced a spring calendar of events.

Dates, times and events include:

Feb. 3, 7 p.m.,”Le Potager du Roi–The Kitchen Garden of Louis XIV.”

Dr. David McElroy, UA professor emeritus of history and gardening

specialist, will give a tour of this often overlooked section of the

famed gardens of Versailles.

March 2, 7 p.m., “Women’s Gardens, Women’s Lives–The Garden As Metaphor.”

Linda Askey, garden editor of Southern Living magazine, will weave tales of the gardening life as she reflects on her interviews with women gardeners during her tenure with Southern Living.

April 8-9, Friends of the Arboretum Annual Spring Plant Sale.

New, unusual and heirloom varieties of herbs, vegetables, annuals and perennials for the garden, the patio and the windowsill will be for sale at the Arboretum. Time to be announced.

May 4, 7 p.m., “Discovering Your Gardening Personality.”

Jennifer Greer, author of “The Alabama Gardeners Almanac,” will take a humorous look at the way a garden reflects the personality of its gardener.

June 4, 1-5 p.m., “Garden Celebrations.”

A tour of Tuscaloosa’s notable gardens.

All of the above (except the plant sale and garden tour) will be held in conjunction with Art Night at the Potager on Main Avenue in Northport.
