Success and accomplishments do not happen on their own. They are the result of setting goals, defining objectives, and identifying expectations. By following this process, an organization and individuals move from a place where they are to a place they want to be. Research on the theory of goal setting suggests that it is an effective tool for making progress and achieving success. It is accomplished by ensuring that a team of people share a common goal and clearly understand what is expected of them to achieve that goal. Goals, objectives, and expectations engage employees and provide a sense of direction and purpose.

Upon the completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Explain the difference between goals, objectives, and expectations.
  • Identify a clear, specific goal.
  • Apply the S.M.A.R.T. principles for developing goals and objectives.
  • Hold conversations to clarify goals, objectives and expectations.
  • Work with team members who are not meeting expectations to create plans for improvement.

A registration fee of $50.00 is required. Please send a Departmental Transfer to HR Learning and Development, Box 870184.
