Dr. Kia J. Bentley, LCSW and a nationally known expert in psychosocial aspects of psychiatric medication use, will present this one-day workshop focusing on the contemporary context of psychiatric medication use today. She will discuss where social work fits in this schema and what research suggests you should be doing with your clients and why. You will learn how to, first, create an alliance with your clients, families and prescribers and to embrace a client-centered "partnership" perspective. You'll also explore how to be a truly meaningful resource to your clients and their families around medication-related dilemmas.

Dr. Bentley is a tenured professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she has taught since 1989. She is the author of the 2014 book, titled The Social Worker & Psychotropic Medication: Toward Effective Collaboration with Clients, Families and Providers.

  • $129 early bird rate available until September 1
  • $159 fee after September 1
  • Workshop fee includes program materials, breakfast and lunch
