Books for the Black Belt

The University of Alabama Center for Economic Development will be collecting new and gently-used classic and award winning books frequently found on school reading lists for K-12 children. The goal of this project is to provide one book for every child in the Black Belt — there over 30,000 children in the 13 Counties of the Black Belt, some of the poorest counties in the United States.

The counties include: Bullock, Butler, Choctaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Pickens, Perry, Sumter and Wilcox .

Donation boxes will be placed in Bidgood Hall, Nott Hall, Graves Hall, Reese Phifer Hall, and Doster Hall.  For a complete list of appropriate books, please visit the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development website. http://www.uaced.ua.edu/books-for-the-black-belt.html
