In 1969, Frankie Taylor Thomas was hired as the first African-American faculty member at The University of Alabama.  She began her tenure as an instructor in the reference department in the University Libraries.  Thomas was promoted to head of the reference department in 1975, and then served as head of staff development and communication officer in 1981.  She retired from University Libraries in 1984.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of her employment at UA, an exhibit has been placed in Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library at the Capstone entrance on the first floor.

Exhibit will be open during regular business hours
