The College of Communication and Information Sciences including the School of Library and Information Studies, and the Departments of Communication Studies, Journalism and Creative Media and Advertising + Public Relations are pleased to sponsor a screening of a 2018  documentary exploring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's influence in mass media.  The film that originally aired on NBC and MSNBC in Spring 2018 was produced, written & directed by Phil Bertelsen and Rachel Dretzin.  Both Bertelsen and Dretzin visit The University of Alabama to share the story behind their project that spotlights the role of not only network television, but also black newspapers in the Civil Rights Movement.   The film also examines media's role in activism in more contemporary efforts such as the Black Lives Matter movement.
