Office: 104 Manly Hall The objectives of the Department of Women's Studies are to gather, generate, and disseminate information about women — their minds and bodies, contributions to culture, sex-role differentiation, and changing roles in society. Nine courses, all under the women's studies heading, are offered for academic credit and for continuing education units (CEUs). The department also maintains a collection of books, periodicals, and audiovisual materials by or about women that may be a useful resource for individuals conducting research projects. In addition, the women's studies department, with the American studies department, has established the Archive of American Minority Cultures to collect and make available nonprint material on the minority experience in America. Requirements for the minor in women's studies. The women's studies minor requires 18 hours, including WS 200, and WS 430 or WS 470. Women-related courses such as PY 371, AMS 350, and EN 388 may be applied to the women's studies minor. A minimum of 6 hours at the 300 or 400 level must be earned on this campus. Students may concentrate in women's studies through the American studies and New College curricula. Graduate programs. The Department of Women's Studies offers the master of arts degree in women's studies. The requirements for this degree are stated in the University of Alabama graduate catalog.
