The Leadership Board of the College of Arts and Sciences is a volunteer organization that works for the advancement of the College. Its goals include increasing private support for the College's programs, providing scholarship support for outstanding College students, cultivating alumni relations, and recruiting students. The board also has an advisory role in the College's academic activities.
In 2000, the Society for Fine Arts was incorporated into the Leadership Board, and is now known as the Fine Arts Committee of the College of Arts and Sciences Leadership Board. The purpose of this committee is to promote and recognize performance in the arts on campus; create a greater awareness of the arts in the state and the region; further develop the College as the state's center for artistic excellence; and provide an opportunity for alumni and friends of The University of Alabama to become involved in the fine arts programs at the University.
The Fine Arts Committee has provided student scholarships, teaching grants, and sponsorships of visiting artists. In addition, it hosts an annual awards gala to recognize outstanding achievements by alumni artists, state artists, and patrons of the arts.
