OPENING DOORS EXHIBITS
Opening Doors: Segregation, Civil Rights, and Beyond at The University
of Alabama
This exhibit featured materials from the W.S. Hoole
Special Collections Library that documented the turbulent and triumphant
path of The University of Alabama and the Tuscaloosa community from
the 1950s to the present.
The exhibit included photographs, university publications,
scrapbooks, and selected manuscript materials and artifacts. Highlights
include a powerful and never before exhibited group of photographs
taken by Jim Oakley in 1956, as well as selected materials from
the Buford Boone Papers and materials on loan from 1963 Crimson
White Editor Scott Henry "Hank" Black Jr.
When: Opened Tuesday, June 10, 2003, and remained
on display through Sept. 26, 2003.
Where: W.S. Hoole Special Collections Library,
2nd floor of Mary Harmon Bryant Hall, on Hackberry Lane on the UA
campus.
Hours: The Hoole Library is open Monday-Friday,
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Thursday evenings until 9:00 p.m.

Opening Doors: Pioneers
The W.S. Hoole Special Collections Library displayed
a selection of photographs of the Opening Doors Pioneers.
On Tuesday, June 10, 2003, the exhibit was
on display throughout the day at the Bryant Conference Center.
On Wednesday, June 11, 2003, the exhibit was
on display at the UA Quad from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. as part of the
Community Celebration on the Quad.
