The University of Alabama School of Social Work invites nominations and
applications for a BSW Chair, which is a non-tenure track faculty position,
effective August 16, 2008. Appointment is for a three-year term, renewable
subject to continued funding and satisfactory job performance. A doctorate in
social work, social welfare, or a closely related field; an MSW; and two years
of professional practice experience are required. Applicants should have a
record of scholarly achievement, teaching experience, and service commensurate
with years since receipt of the doctorate.
We seek
candidates who will provide leadership in a growing BSW Program. As a community
of knowledge-builders, we are looking for productive and creative colleagues
who bring new perspectives to the synthesis of practice and research, and who
are interested in applying these perspectives to the undergraduate curriculum. Applicants should
welcome the opportunity to teach in all three degree programs. The first
teaching priority for the BSW Program Chair, however, will be in the BSW
Program. We are strongly invested in recruiting colleagues who demonstrate
experience with, knowledge of, and sensitivity to the needs of culturally
diverse and underrepresented populations.

New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, and the Great Smoky Mountains are all within easy
driving distance.
The School of
Social Work offers the BSW, MSW, and Ph.D. degrees. Faculty have excellent
support for teaching and research, including state-of-the-art computing
equipment, multi-media classrooms, and opportunities to work with nationally
prominent mentors. The School enjoys good relationships with federal, state,
and local social service, health, and educational agencies. The School also has
well-established teaching programs in Washington, D.C. and Hong Kong, and, for
MSW students, a distance education program that has expanded to three sites
around the state: Mobile, Montgomery, and Gadsden. For more information please visit the School's website:
The school
strongly encourages applications from women, persons of color, and members of
other underrepresented groups. Salary for this nine-month position is
