Admission into the major. Students are expected to formally declare a major no later than the fourth semester of full-time enrollment (or at 61 semester hours for transfer students). With the assistance of an advisor in the major department, students should complete the “Declaration of Major” form.

Additional major requirements. MUS 121 does not satisfy the fine arts (FA) general education requirement for music majors. At the beginning of the senior year, the student, in consultation with the music advisor, selects a faculty advisor for the senior project, which is usually a substantial paper on a historical or theoretical topic. The topic and format of the project must be approved by the project advisor. The project must be turned in one month before the last day of classes in the final semester. It will be examined by a faculty committee selected by the project advisor. Students are responsible for ensuring that they have met all University, college, major, and minor requirements. However, each student must meet with an advisor in the major department for academic planning and to be cleared for registration each semester.
