PHYSICAL EDUCATION LEISURE ACTIVITIES (HPL)

HPL 101 Physical Conditioning. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the knowledge base underlying proper physical conditioning of the body and appropriate techniques for participation.

HPL 103 Soccer. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for skilled participation in the sport of soccer.

HPL 104 Basketball. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for participation in basketball.

HPL 105 Softball. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for skilled participation in the sport of softball.

HPL 108 Beginning Tennis. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide knowledge and skills to motivate participation in tennis as a lifetime sport.

HPL 109 Intermediate Tennis. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the basic strategies and principles appropriate for participation in tennis as a form of leisure activity.

HPL 114 Track and Field. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the basic techniques and warm-up activities for the various track and field events.

HPL 115 Badminton. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to gain necessary skills and knowledge to the extent that students can choose to play badminton after the course is completed.

HPL 116 Restricted Physical Education. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide a vehicle whereby handicapped students have the opportunity to participate in physical activity. This class is open to handicapped students only. A doctor's statement is required.

HPL 117 Volleyball. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for skilled participation in volleyball.

HPL 120 Aerobics. One hour.

This course is designed to enhance cardiorespiratory function through the medium of aerobic dance.

HPL 121 Beginning Social Dance. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the basic dances that are performed in a social situation.

HPL 130 Swim Fitness. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the basic strategies and principles appropriate for participation in swim fitness as a form of aerobic exercise.

HPL 131 Beginning Swimming. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide knowledge and skills to serve as a means of motivating participation in swimming.

HPL 132 Intermediate Swimming. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide knowledge and advanced skills to serve as a means of motivating participation in swimming.

HPL 138 Advanced Lifesaving. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to prepare the student both mentally and physically to supervise, coordinate, and successfully control an aquatic emergency.

HPL 140 Water Safety Instruction. Two hours

The purpose of this course is to provide knowledge of water safety instruction so that the student will be able to instruct groups and individuals in this discipline.

HPL 145 Beginning Racquetball. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the basic strategies and principles appropriate for participation in racquetball as a form of leisure activity.

HPL 153 Judo. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for skilled participation in the sport of judo.

HPL 154 Self Defense. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for skilled participation in the sport of self defense.

HPL 157 Beginning Weight Training. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to help students realize the importance of basic body strength and how to improve strength levels.

HPL 167 Jogging. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the basic strategies and principles appropriate for participation in jogging as a form of aerobic exercise.

HPL 170 Beginning Karate. One hour.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for skilled participation in the sport of karate.
