The Department of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design offers two academic majors: interior design (INTD) and apparel and textiles (AT), with concentrations in fashion retailing and apparel design. Students in both AT concentrations take 24 hours of common courses. Each student takes 36 additional hours of coursework for the concentration in apparel design and
37 or 38 additional hours of coursework for the concentration in fashion retailing. University Core Curriculum designations are noted in bold type.
Major in apparel and textiles (AT). The AT major is planned for students interested in preparing for merchandising, management, design, and production careers in retailing and/or the textile and apparel industry. This major is also appropriate for students who are interested in pursuing a wide variety of entrepreneurial opportunities in fashion retailing, textiles, and/or apparel.

Apparel design concentration for AT majors. The concentration in apparel design is planned for students interested in preparing for design, production, and management careers in the textile and apparel industry. Students may enhance their career preparation by choosing coursework from such areas as art, business, communication, and industrial engineering, and by completing an internship in textile/apparel production and/or design.

SAMPLE CURRICULUM FOR THE APPAREL AND TEXTILES MAJOR WITH AN APPAREL DESIGN CONCENTRATION
Fashion retailing concentration for AT majors. The fashion retailing concentration is planned for students interested in preparing for merchandising and management careers in retailing and related fashion fields. Supervised internships are offered during the senior year for students who have successfully completed 86 semester hours. The 86 hours must include the following group of professional courses, completed with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, prior to enrollment in

Through careful planning with the adviser, a marketing minor may be completed without additional courses.

SAMPLE CURRICULUM FOR THE APPAREL AND TEXTILES MAJOR WITH A FASHION RETAILING CONCENTRATION
Minor in apparel and textiles (AT). Twenty-one hours of apparel and textiles courses — including
CTD 102,
CTD 261,
CTD 281,
CTD 446 or CTD 447, and at least 6 hours in courses numbered above 300 — are required for the minor in apparel and textiles. In addition, the student must obtain approval of the 21-hour course plan from the head of the Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design.
Major in interior design (INTD). The program in interior design is planned to prepare students for professional careers in residential and nonresidential interior design. Career opportunities include employment with interior design studios, interior design divisions of architectural firms, and retail establishments. The coursework is designed to prepare students to apply to become registered interior designers. The interior design program received six-year reaccreditation from the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER) in 2000. Accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) was awarded in 1998.
CTD 225 must be taken in the fall semester;
CTD 121 must be completed prior to enrolling in CTD 225;
CTD 102 (or studio art),
CTD 221, and
DR 135 are prerequisites or corequisites for CTD 225. The courses CTD 225,

CTD 426 must be taken in that sequence. Laboratory courses at the 300 and 400 levels are open only to interior design majors. Each student will be assigned an academic adviser who will help develop the plan of study. Students interested in transferring into the interior design program should contact the Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design one semester prior to enrollment, if possible.
