TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Alabama Class B Professional Certificate. Students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences who qualify for admission to the teacher education program in the College of Education may, with careful planning, simultaneously complete requirements for the bachelor's degree and for the appropriate Alabama Class B Professional Certificate in the following teaching fields:

Music Education (B.M. program)

High-School Education, with one of two options:

Option 1 — One comprehensive teaching field chosen from

Option 2 — One teaching field chosen from

The specific requirements for each of these teacher education programs are outlined in the College of Education section of this catalog (see p. 179 for music education; and p. 180 for secondary education majors.) The criteria for admission and retention in the teacher education program and for enrolling in student teaching (internship) are found on p. 170. Students must complete general and major requirements for both the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education.

While applications for admission to the teacher education program will be considered by the College of Education during any term, a decision to pursue such a dual program should be made as early as possible because a delay beyond the end of the sophomore year is likely to require an additional semester or more of attendance at the University. Students interested in completing the teacher education program are urged to consult with an adviser in 200 Clark Hall; with the assistant dean of education in 104 Carmichael Hall; and with an appropriate College of Education adviser in 104 Carmichael Hall.

Applications for the Alabama Class B Professional Certificate may be made in the Office of Student Services of the College of Education (104 Carmichael Hall). The services of the University Career Center in Ferguson Center are available without charge to candidates for teaching positions.
