PERFORMING MUSIC GROUPS
Alabama Jazz Ensembles
The University Jazz Ensembles provide a professional atmosphere for students interested in the many aspects of jazz. The Jazz Ensemble program, a recipient of numerous national honors, consists of the Jazz Ensemble (big band), BAMAsax (Supersax configuration), a studio orchestra (performs Hilaritas
), Chamber Jazz Ensemble, and small group combos. Its repertoire covers musical styles from the early beginnings of jazz to contemporary arrangements, including those written and arranged by students. The ensemble program invites guest artists to perform with the groups and also sponsors the Jazz Seminar Series, a masterclass program for the students of the School of Music. Alabama Wind Ensemble.
Founded in 1985, the Alabama Wind Ensemble is a 70-member group of select wind and percussion players dedicated to the highest level of performance of concert band music. Annual tours and appearances at the Alabama All-State Festival and Honor Band Festival highlight regular seasons of concert and recording activities. Semiannual auditions, open to all students, determine the Alabama Wind Ensemble's membership.
Million Dollar Marching Band.
The nationally recognized Million Dollar Marching Band is known for its colorful halftime presentations. Composed of some 350 students with various majors and interests, the band is an exciting part of Crimson Tide spirit and tradition.
Literature for the full concert band is the focus of the Symphonic Band at The University of Alabama. An auditioned large group, the band is open to all students and is featured in major concerts on campus each spring semester.

Alabama Festival Chorus.
The Alabama Festival Chorus is a chorus of 60 to 160 voices whose primary concern is the performance of major choral/orchestral works. The membership consists of student, faculty, and community singers. Activities include formal concerts in the fall and spring, the annual Messiah Sing at Christmastime, and participation in School of Music gala events. For additional information, call (205) 348-7110.
The University Chorus is composed of 50 to 100 singers from all divisions of the University. One hour of academic credit may be earned while performing a variety of music. The University Chorus presents two major concerts on campus each year. For additional information, call (205) 348-7110.
The University Singers are an advanced choral ensemble primarily concerned with classical works from the 15th to the 20th centuries. Membership is by audition. For additional information, call (205) 348-7110.
The Women's Chorale explores the vast repertoire of music written for women's voices from medieval times to the 20th century.
Alabama Chamber Orchestra.
The Alabama Chamber Orchestra is a select group of faculty and students who perform serious literature for small orchestras.
University Studio Orchestra.
The University Studio Orchestra is a combination symphony orchestra and jazz ensemble. Participating students gain experience as studio musicians for recording, television, and motion picture studios.
University Symphony Orchestra.
The University Symphony Orchestra is a full orchestra that performs the standard orchestral literature.

University Opera Theatre
