    General Degree Requirements and Academic Policies


Graduation Requirements

In order to qualify for a bachelor's degree in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, a student must earn a minimum of 124 semester hours of credit as specified in this catalog. A minimum of 31 hours, including at least 9 of the last 18 hours required for a degree, must be earned in residence at The University of Alabama and in the College.

Total hours of study. A minimum of 124 semester hours of credit as specified in this catalog is required for the degree of bachelor of science in commerce and business administration in the following curricula: Curriculum I — Business Administration, Curriculum II — Accounting, and Curriculum IV — Management Information Systems. The degree program for college graduates, Curriculum VII, requires a minimum of 70 semester hours of credit as specified. The minimum hours required for a B.S. degree holder who is pursuing a second business major vary from 30 to 32 hours. For specific course requirements, consult the C&BA registrar or the academic department in which the second major is to be earned.

Academic standards. The following minimum standards of academic achievement must be met by each student who expects to earn a bachelor's degree from the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration. (These standards are subject to change.)

It is the student's responsibility to make sure that each of the above requirements has been met. The C&BA registrar is available to students who are within one semester of graduation for verification of their records.

Application for degree. Each candidate for graduation from C&BA must submit an application for degree to the registrar of the College (10 Bidgood Hall). Students who expect to complete degree requirements in May may submit their degree applications to the registrar beginning on October 1 of the previous year. Those who expect to finish their requirements after the Interim term, summer session, or fall semester should submit their applications beginning the previous March. In all cases, an application for degree must be on file with the registrar no later than the time at which the degree candidate registers for his or her final semester in residence. Students who apply for their degrees after registration for the final semester will be awarded their diplomas one term late.

A student who wishes to complete degree requirements at any institution other than The University of Alabama, or by any means other than residency in the College, may do so only on the advice of the C&BA registrar and with the approval of the department head of the major field in which the student expects to earn a degree. Such students must meet all the above requirements.

Academic honors at graduation. The C&BA faculty recognizes high academic achievement by granting the following four honor degrees:

In computing the grade point average, the minimum required averages of 3.90, 3.70, 3.50, and 3.30 cannot be achieved by rounding. Averages are calculated for performance in all courses in which the student is enrolled prior to receiving the degree.
